JWS Rules and Policies
(updated Oct 9 at 12pm eastern)
By making a deposit or full payment for any JWS class, you agree to abide by all of the rules and policies below.
Privacy - Anything that is shared within the physical or digital walls of the Studio lives only within the group participating in class. Please respect each other’s boundaries and privacy and contribute to the best working environment possible. To that end, students may not take or share photos, screen shots, cut and paste quotes, audio/video grabs of teachers, staff, or other students without their express permission to do so. The only exception is recording your own work session, as outlined in the Recording policy. Any violation of this will result in immediate dismissal from the studio without a refund, no exceptions.
Intellectual Property - All JWS content, including classes, workshops, videos, recordings, exercises, frameworks, worksheets, handouts, and curriculum, is the intellectual property of Jen Waldman and JWS Creative LLC and is protected by copyright. JWS maintains written and time-stamped recorded documentation of its exercises and materials.
By enrolling in any JWS class or program, you agree to the following terms. These terms remain in effect after your class or program ends.
You may not:
Download, copy, record, transcribe, or reproduce JWS content (with the exception of recording your own work session, as outlined in the Recording policy).
Bypass any privacy or security settings on platforms where JWS content is hosted.
Upload JWS content, or any transcript of it, to AI tools.
Use JWS content to build chatbots, custom GPTs, or any other AI product.
Sell, distribute, or repackage JWS recordings, worksheets, handouts, or curriculum as your own.
Help or allow anyone else to do any of the above.
If you teach or coach:
We want you to share what you have learned at JWS with your own students and clients. When you do, you must credit Jen Waldman each time. Sharing means teaching the ideas and exercises yourself, not distributing JWS recordings, worksheets, handouts, or curriculum. Failing to credit Jen Waldman is a violation of this policy and may result in legal action.
Violations:
Any violation will result in immediate dismissal without a refund, no exceptions, and may result in legal action. Jen Waldman and JWS Creative LLC may pursue all remedies available under law, including court orders to stop the use, removal of content from any platform, monetary damages, and recovery of attorney’s fees and legal costs.
Health Guidelines - If you are feeling sick, or have come in contact with someone who is known to be sick, please reference our upper respiratory illness agreements and protocols at jws.community/health.
JWS Online - JWS has a private Heartbeat discussion forum called “JWS Online”. On this page you will be connected to our amazing, vibrant, and supportive JWS community. If you are new to the studio, you will be added to the Forum after you have completed your first class. In addition to joining our network of fellow artists, you will find some excellent information, musings about class, and other resources.
Lateness - Class starts on time. If you are going to be late (i.e. an audition, transportation, etc.), you must text 818-370-7733 to let them know when to expect you. Your work session will be held only through the first half of class. You may not arrive after the first half of class. No exceptions. If you are not present at the beginning of class and have not texted, we will assume you are not attending that day and your work session will be released.
Subs - Studio Workshop, Audition Workshop, Callback Workshop, and Megapacket allow subs. Subs are not permitted in Week 1 of Callback Workshop or Megapacket. All other classes do not allow subs. Subs must be people who have taken a class at JWS before. You are responsible for finding your own sub, and your sub pays you directly. If you are unable to find a sub, you are still responsible for payment for that class. We do not pro-rate missed classes.
Class Cancellations - It is extremely rare that we would cancel a class. In the event that we do, we will offer either a makeup class or a refund.
Payment Plans - Should you opt into a class payment plan that includes multiple payments, those payments must be made on time. Should a payment be missed, you will not be permitted to attend class until it has been fulfilled. Should you ever be in a situation where you are unable to make a payment on the previously agreed upon timeline, please reach out to our studio manager Jake (jake@jenwaldman.com) to request an extension or amendment to your payment plan. Approved adjustments will not be considered late payments and will not impact your attendance.
Bathroom - We take bathroom breaks as a group. When nature calls and you cannot wait for the scheduled bathroom break, please wait until the end of someone’s work session to let yourself out of the room. You may not enter or exit the room while someone else is working. If you leave, you must wait outside until the person is finished with their work session.
Sheet Music - Sheet music should be in a binder. No loose pages, no bound sheet music books. Please be respectful to our music directors and make it as easy as possible for them to do their best job for you. Some of you have inquired about using an iPad rather than hard copy sheet music. That is fine. However, please know that you do so at your own risk. If the iPad falls off the piano, the studio will not be responsible for any damage to the device.
Recording - You are welcome to video record and/or audio record your work sessions only. In fact, we encourage it. However, you may not record anyone else’s work. Recordings are for your personal use only and are not to be shared outside the studio, this includes on your website or on social media platforms. If you need a special exception to this rule, you may ask the teacher and the accompanist for their permission, and they may or may not grant it.
Phone Use - Phones are not permitted during class EXCEPT for taking notes, recording your own work session, or during bathroom breaks.
Talking - Students are not to comment on each other’s work unless specifically asked to do so. In addition, side conversations are not permitted during any student’s work session. Save your conversations for bathroom breaks or after class.
Writing - Students are encouraged to bring a notebook with them to every class, and to take notes. You are welcome to take notes during your work session, someone else’s work session, and during “lectures”. No one will take it personally if you feel the need to write.
Applause - We consider JWS a rehearsal space, therefore applause is not necessary.
The Chat - Should your class include a digital component, students may not post links to any copyrighted material in the classroom chat, nor should they comment on each other’s work unless specifically asked to do so. In addition, off topic side conversations in the chat are not permitted.
