A DEEP DIVE INTO ANALYSIS AND CRAFT

Welcome to Scene Study

Speak the speech, I pray you!

Are you hungry to sink your teeth into well-written and juicy material? Complicated characters? Compelling stories? We got you.

Scene Study at JWS is an 8-week workshop that combines "on the page" script analysis with JWS's signature approach of exercise-based exploration. We work on both plays and musicals, in a safe space designed to help you take bigger risks in your work.

Week 1. We explore tools and techniques for dissecting text, building characters, and exploring physical possibilities.

Weeks 2–4. Artists are partnered and put those tools and techniques into practice through a scene from a play, which they develop and deepen together over three weeks.

Week 5. We explore tools and techniques for working on material for musicals.

Weeks 6–8. Artists are partnered and put those tools and techniques into practice through a scene from a musical, which they develop and deepen together over three weeks.

Between sessions, scene partners will work together outside of class on homework specifically tailored to their work and designed by Jen. This out-of-class collaboration is an essential part of the process.

There are very few classes in New York City where actors who do musicals are treated like serious actors. This is one of those places.

Get ready to experience serious growth as an actor.

JWS provides rehearsal space (based on availability) at no additional charge for artists enrolled in Scene Study.

Class size is limited to 10 artists.
Consent practices for this class were developed by Alison Novelli of Cheek to Cheek Intimacy.
